Position Summary

Implements and conducts evaluation of programs designed to limit chemical, physical, biological and ergonomic risks to workers. Reviews evaluates and analyzes work environments and designs programs and procedures to control, eliminate and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical and biological agents or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.

Working Conditions

May frequently be required to walk; sit; stand; use hands or fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift files, open file cabinets, ability to reach, and bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally with or without accommodation and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays

Essential Functions

  • Maintains and applies knowledge of current safety, security and DOT policies, regulations and processes.
  • Inspects facilities, machinery and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards ensuring regulation compliance.
  • Inspects specified areas ensuring presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment or first aid supplies.
  • Assists in designing security policies, programs or practices ensuring adequate security relating to issues such as protection of assets, alarm response and access card use.
  • Prepares or reviews specifications or orders for purchase of safety equipment ensuring that proper features are present and that items conform to health and safety standards.
  • Evaluates situations and makes determinations when an employee has raised concerns on the grounds that danger or potential harm exists.
  • Investigates incidents to identify causes and to determine how such incidents might be prevented.
  • Recommends measures to help protect employees from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials.
  • Develops and conducts training or education programs and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
  • Plans, maintains and updates emergency response plans or procedures.
  • Assist in other safety, security, and environmental duties as directed.
  • Preforms other duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned.

Job Related Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related scientific or technical field

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in similar role; utility or industrial environment preferred

License & Certification

  • Valid Texas Driver License
