Our headquarters are located at the Sam Rayburn Power Plant on the Guadalupe River just outside Nursery, TX. Power provided by STEC to its members is generated from a variety of energy sources, including wind, solar, lignite, natural gas, diesel fuel, and hydroelectric.

Transmission line and substation service facilities are also located in Pearsall, TX and Donna, TX with additional owned power plants located at Red Gate, TX and Pearsall, TX.

Primary generation sources, totaling 1,865.3 MW of capacity, are:

Our History

On March 24, 1944, 7 cooperatives came together with a unified goal and common vision to collectively control their own destiny. This collaboration led to the formation of South Texas Electric Cooperative, Inc.

Over the decades, STEC has grown and evolved, continuously adapting to meet the changing energy needs of our members. From our humble beginnings, we have become a cornerstone of our communities, committed to electrifying and empowering South Texas through innovation and dedication.
