We currently have a position open for a Line Foreman at the Pearsall, Texas location. The Line Forman provides field supervision over crews involved in installation, maintenance and repair of overhead transmission lines and substation facilities both energized and de-energized. Supervises all phases of a crew’s work to ensure that safety, quality and construction standards are met. Supervises crew members to ensure that the assigned equipment meets safety and compliance standards. Promotes and maintains harmony among assigned crew personnel, customers and the general public.
Qualified candidates will have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent AND Lineman Apprenticeship Program Diploma
- 5+ years’ experience as a Journeyman Lineman
- Valid CDL or ability to obtain within 180 days of hiring
- Acceptable MVR
Working conditions:
- Lifts and carries up to 65 pounds and pulls, pushes or drags up to 80 pounds with or without assistance.
- Sits, stands, stoops or twists for extended periods of time. Works outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, humidity, temperature swings and inclement weather, frequent exposure to dust, odor, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, loud noise, exhaust, petroleum products and other toxic hazards.
- Operates or drives hand tools, heavy equipment, light trucks, power tools and other equipment.
- May climb poles and other structures or use a bucket truck to work in an elevated position in close proximity to or within the MAD of energized conductors at heights up to 220 feet. 20/20 corrected vision is required to perform visual inspection of small defects, small parts and operation of measurement devices and assembly of fabricated parts.
- Frequently must work on call, after hours, weekends and holidays, respond timely to urgent or emergency situations and frequently stay overnight near work sites.
Typical duties include:
- Oversees crews performing line and station work as assigned by the Line Superintendent.
- Coordinates and schedules line and station work with System Operations and other departments.
- Plans and prepares lists of needed tools, equipment and hardware for transmission line and substation maintenance, installation and repair assignments.
- Oversees planned installation and removal of mobile substations, transformers, breakers, regulators, switches, structures and other substation equipment.
- Performs hot stick and bare-hand transmission line and substation work and monitors, directs and documents crew work doing the same.
- Schedules overnight accommodations for the crew when needed.
- Obtains all necessary underground locates when needed.
- Monitors the state and availability of tools, supplies and equipment.
- Ensures that crew members are properly knowledgeable in all aspects of assigned work and that safety regulations are being followed by all crew.
- Coordinates and schedules with System Operations and other departments and holds tailgate safety meetings.
- Oversees the training of apprentices and new hires.
- Performs mandatory Department of Transportation inspections.
- Participates in emergency call-out rotation.
- Maintains readiness of assigned service truck by ensuring availability of appropriate tools and spare parts.
- Documents and reports on line crew work efforts and monitors crew timesheets.
- Performs other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
